When you walk through the doors at First Baptist Church of Howland, you can expect to be greeted by a friendly face, prepared to address any questions or concerns you may have or to usher you to a seat in our sanctuary. When our service begins at approximately 10:45am, we begin with a public reading of scripture and prayer. To follow, we worship the Lord together through several songs, led by our worship band. In addition to our worship, we corporately confess our shortcomings and our innate desire to sin despite having full knowledge of God's glory. In response, we share in the assurance of scripture that when we repent of our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us; we have been washed clean by the atoning blood of Jesus. Together, we sit under the expository preaching of our pastor, as he carefully extracts a portion of Scripture and clearly explains what God has intended by those few verses, while maintaining the passage's context and entire Bible's narrative. To make it easier to follow along with the sermon, there is a provided English-Standard Version of the Bible in the pew for you. After a final call-to-action and prayer, we close service with another worship song -- another reminder of God's goodness to meditate on. Afterwards, we fellowship with our church-family and encourage one another so that we are prepared to fulfill the Great Commission and glorify God throughout the coming week. We would love it if you and your family would come and join us for church this Sunday! Check out the "VISIT US" page for directions.

Ron, born in Akron and having had saving faith in Christ since eight years old, decided to pursue ministry and attended Tennessee Temple College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and English. He furthered his education by receiving a Master's degree in Biblical Studies from Temple Baptist Seminary. Since then, Ron has been in pastoral ministry, in various forms, for more than forty years including a pastor at two previous churches. In addition to serving as Pastor and elder of First Baptist, he is employed at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley in Youngstown, Ohio. There, he has taken on several roles, but most currently, Human Resources. Pastor Ron has been an adjunct instructor for Moody Bible Institute Northeast Ohio extension and for San Diego Christian College APS department. He married Lois in 1974, and together, they have two children and four grandchildren.
Pastor Ron has a quick-witted sense of humor, he can play the mandolin surprisingly well, and he wanted you to be reminded that he is younger than Pastor King (but that's not true).
Pastor King was born in Ann Arbor and raised near Brighton, Michigan. During the summer of 1971, he came to Christ as Savior which significantly altered his life course from then on. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Adrian College in 1976, and then, a Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1987. Peter has served at a pastoral position in several churches throughout Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio -- including twenty-two years at a church near Garrettsville. Now, he serves our church faithfully, while also working as a showroom salesman at Baird Brothers in Canfield. He has been happily married to his wife, Fran, for over forty years, and together, they have four children whom are all married, and six grandchildren.
Peter most enjoys spending time with his family and friends, but he also gets pleasure out of golfing, hunting, and watching the Cleveland Indians.
